Director Huang Zhaojin of the CCDA Overseas Committee Meets with Lesotho Ambassador H.E. Mapaballo Lydia Mile to Discuss 60th Independence Anniversary Celebrations and Business Cooperation

Beijing, July 9, 2026 – Mr. Huang Zhaojin, Director of the China City Development Alliance Overseas Joint Development Working Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "CCDA Overseas Committee"), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. Mapaballo Lydia Mile, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Lesotho to China, at the Embassy of Lesotho in Beijing. The two sides held a working meeting centered on preparations for Lesotho's 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations, the establishment of a business cooperation center, and the deepening of bilateral economic and trade ties.

Spotlight on the 60th Independence Anniversary – Joint Planning for Celebration Events

At the outset of the meeting, Director Huang Zhaojin extended warm congratulations on Lesotho's upcoming 60th Independence Anniversary. He noted that 2026 represents both a historic milestone for Lesotho and a pivotal moment for China-Lesotho relations. He recalled that in January of this year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid a visit to Lesotho and specifically conveyed his congratulations on the anniversary, emphasizing China's commitment to working alongside Lesotho to further elevate their strategic partnership. The CCDA Overseas Committee, he said, is eager to seize this opportunity to actively participate in and support the Independence Day anniversary celebrations and related business forums hosted by the Lesotho Embassy, jointly reviewing six decades of friendly exchanges between the two nations and charting the course for future cooperation.

Ambassador Mile expressed her gratitude for Director Huang's visit and his congratulatory remarks, and provided an update on the preparatory work for the series of 60th anniversary events. She noted that Lesotho places great importance on this historic occasion and plans to host a variety of activities at the Embassy and other venues in Beijing, including economic and trade promotion events and cultural exhibitions. She expressed her hope that the CCDA Overseas Committee and Chinese enterprises would take an active part in celebrating this significant milestone.

Advancing the Business Cooperation Center – Building a New Platform for Economic and Trade Collaboration

The discussions placed particular emphasis on the proposal to establish a China-Lesotho economic and trade cooperation platform within a business center. Director Huang Zhaojin briefed the Ambassador on the progress of the CCDA Overseas Committee's plan to set up a business cooperation center in the Nansha District of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The center is intended to provide one-stop support services for Chinese enterprises engaged in Africa-related cooperation, covering equipment production, processing and manufacturing, and trade matchmaking. He noted that Lesotho enjoys unique geographic advantages and abundant natural resources, with considerable cooperation potential in agriculture, textiles, and water resource development. The business cooperation center, he added, could serve as a key gateway for Lesotho's specialty products to enter the Chinese market, offering an efficient and convenient matchmaking platform for businesses from both countries.

Ambassador Mile responded positively to the proposal. She observed that Guangdong Province serves as a major gateway for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, and the establishment of a business cooperation center there would greatly facilitate access for Lesotho enterprises to China's high-quality resources and expansive market. The Lesotho side, she affirmed, would actively support the development of this center and encourage relevant government departments and businesses in Lesotho to engage with their Chinese counterparts, jointly exploring cooperation opportunities in areas such as agricultural product processing, wool products, and mineral resource development.

Deepening Practical Cooperation – Jointly Promoting High-Quality Growth of Bilateral Economic and Trade Relations

During the talks, the two sides also exchanged views on implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and advancing specific cooperative projects. Director Huang Zhaojin stated that the CCDA Overseas Committee has long been dedicated to building bridges for economic, trade, and cultural exchanges between China and other countries, and has already established sound working relationships with the embassies of several African nations in Beijing. The CCDA Overseas Committee will continue to uphold the principle of "sincerity, real results, amity, and good faith" in its engagement with Africa, and adopt a point-to-point, one-stop service approach to ensure the effective implementation of China-Lesotho cooperation projects.

Ambassador Mile responded that Lesotho is willing to strengthen communication and collaboration with the CCDA Overseas Committee within the FOCAC framework, jointly advancing practical cooperation in infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, and other sectors. She further noted that Lesotho is actively pursuing an economic diversification strategy and looks forward to deepening cooperation with Chinese enterprises in areas such as the green development of rare earth resources, modern agricultural technology cooperation, and renewable energy project investment. She extended a warm invitation for the CCDA Overseas Committee to organize a Chinese business delegation for an on-the-ground visit to Lesotho, pledging the Embassy's full support in visa processing, government liaison, and enterprise matchmaking sessions.

The meeting concluded in a cordial and productive atmosphere. Both sides agreed to establish a dedicated communication mechanism to maintain close coordination on matters including participation in the 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations, the development of the business cooperation center, and the organization of enterprise delegation visits, so as to jointly propel the China-Lesotho strategic partnership to new and greater heights.
